Meet Olivia
Hi! I’m Winnie.
At Winnie’s Place, we help children with dyslexia and other reading challenges build strong reading skills that lead to confidence in and out of the classroom. We firmly believe that your child deserves to be reading at the same level as their peers and are here to help them achieve their goals.
Our individualized reading programs are based on the most current research using the Orton-Gillingham and Phono-Graphix approaches. Both teach reading based on the development of phonemic awareness and phonics skills. These components of reading instruction are considered optimal for teaching reading to all children, particularly those with dyslexia.
Once you enroll your child in one of our programs, you’ll watch them transform into a fluent, confident reader. Winnie’s Place may be just what your child needs to thrive today, tomorrow, and years down the road.
Winnie Joy: The Face Behind Winnie’s Place
Former school psychologist, Winnie Joy founded Winnie’s Place to provide the tools children need to learn to read. Reading challenges were the top reason for her referrals for evaluation. She came across countless students with reading struggles, despite having support from their parents and other outside resources. In many cases, these students did not qualify for special education services.
Winnie realized that while she knew how to administer and interpret reading tests, she wanted to know more about how best to intervene with struggling readers.
Eventually, she became certified in Orton-Gillingham and Phono-Graphix. She also completed a rigorous training program through Reading Simplified. Along the way, Winnie discovered a passion for teaching reading. Today, Winnie is pleased to help students conquer their reading challenges through a variety of proven strategies and effective plans tailored to their unique needs.
Winnie resides in the Atlanta area and enjoys reading, outdoor walks, and spending time with her husband and two rambunctious German Shepherd Dogs.
